One advantage of spray foam roofing is the potential to maintain and restore the protective coating without replacing the entire roof assembly.
Over time, weather and UV exposure can degrade the coating. Periodic inspections help identify coating wear, damaged areas, ponding water, and details that require attention.
A Spray Polyurethane Foam Roof System (SPFRS) is a roofing solution that uses spray-applied polyurethane foam to create a continuous insulating layer over a suitable roof substrate. The foam is protected by a specialized roof coating that helps shield it from ultraviolet radiation and weather exposure.
Unlike many conventional roofing systems that rely on multiple sheets and seams, spray foam roofing can form a continuous surface that conforms to the roof's contours and around properly detailed penetrations.
The result is a roofing system designed to help protect the building, improve thermal performance, and reduce potential pathways for air and water intrusion.
An SPFRS can often be applied to existing roof systems such as Tar & Gravel (BUR), Torch On (SBS) and low slope standing seam metal roofs. Mitigating a full removal and preventing down time to the buildings occupants are two of the benefits that make this system very attractive to building owners. Aside from providing a new roof membrane, a foam roof adds an effective R-value to the roof which saves money on heating and cooling costs. The foam and coating provides a monolithic seal because the system has no seams and is self-flashing to penetrations, limiting the use of collars to seal the membrane to stacks and vents.
