BLOWING INSULATION | Sealpro Foam

An Efficient Insulation Solution for Alberta Attics

Blown-in insulation, also known as loose-fill insulation, is one of the most popular choices for insulating attics in Alberta. Instead of being installed in rigid batts, the insulation is mechanically blown into the attic, creating a continuous layer across the attic floor.

What Is Cellulose Insulation?

Cellulose is a loose-fill insulation material made primarily from recycled paper products, which are processed into small fibers and treated with fire-resistant additives. It is blown into the attic using specialized equipment, allowing it to fill around framing, corners, and other areas that can be difficult to insulate with traditional batts.

Another common option is blown-in fiberglass, which is made from fine glass fibers and is also designed to provide even coverage across the attic space.

Why Use Blown-In Insulation?

Loose-fill insulation is particularly effective for attic spaces because it can provide consistent coverage over large areas and reach around obstacles and irregular spaces. Adding insulation to an under-insulated attic can help reduce heat loss, improve indoor comfort, and increase the home's overall energy efficiency.

Before adding new insulation, we look at the existing attic conditions, including the current insulation, ventilation, vapour barrier, and areas where heat or air may be escaping.

Whether you're upgrading an older home or simply looking to improve your attic's insulation levels, we can help determine the appropriate insulation type and depth for your project.

Understanding R-Value

R-value measures how well insulation resists heat transfer. Generally, the higher the R-value, the greater the insulation's resistance to heat flow.

The amount of insulation required to achieve a particular R-value depends on the product being used, the application, and the desired performance. Rather than simply adding as much insulation as possible, the goal is to install the appropriate depth and maintain consistent coverage throughout the attic.

Attic rulers can be used to help verify the installed insulation depth and ensure the material is distributed evenly.
